Edge Fractional CO2 Laser

Edge Fractional CO2 Laser

For smoother skin texture and smaller pores with minimal downtime

Fractional CO2 laser remains the gold standard for treating uneven skin textures, depressed acne scars, aged skin and fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike traditional resurfacing lasers, Edge Fractional CO2 has revolutionised treatment of these conditions by reducing downtime to a minimum.

Collagen – the solution to most dermatological problems

Fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, depressed acne skin have one thing in common- a lack of collagen in the skin. Collagen is a key protein in the skin that keeps skin looking younger and gives skin its elasticity and firmness. While collagen is naturally produced by the skin, the bad news is, our skin’s ability to produce collagen slows as we age. This lack of collagen accounts for the signs of aging and poorer ability for skin to repair itself as we age.

Smoking cessation and applying/consuming antioxidants can help to slow down the loss of collagen in the skin to a certain extent. Thankfully, with Fractional CO2 laser, the skin’s collagen renewal can be accelerated to correct these skin imperfections.

“Do Collagen Drinks Work?”

A common question asked by our patients is whether collagen drinks are useful in replacing the skin’s collagen. Unfortunately, there is no evidence to suggest that consuming collagen will lead to the replacement of the skin’s collagen.
Collagen is a large protein molecule that needs to be broken down into its individual amino acid components in order to be absorbed by the gut.

These amino acid components are then reconstituted as a variety of proteins (and not always collagen) and are transported to other part of the body (and not always the skin)

Fractional CO2 Laser and Collagen

How does Fractional CO2 laser work? It works simply by stimulating our body’s natural repair process to rebuild lost collagen in skin. After a session of Fractional CO2 Laser, the skin that is treated gives off a number of cell signals that tell the body to repair and rebuild skin in the area. That causes the body to channel collagen raw materials to that area and causing it to build up the collagen in the skin. This entire remodelling process takes place over weeks to a month, and the final effect is smoother, plumper, and tighter skin which looks younger and less scarred.

Each treatment of Fractional CO2 Laser takes about 10 minutes, during which our doctor will treat the whole face or part of the face with the Laser. The Laser works by shining tiny beams of light on the face, and heating up the dermis layer of the skin. After each treatment, the skin feels slightly red and warm. This will subside usually within a day.

What is Edge Fractional CO2

With the latest generation of Fractional CO2 Lasers, the Edge Pulse was introduced. This Edge Fractional CO2 Laser treatment solves the problem of traditional Fractional CO2 Laser treatments by greatly reducing the downtime associated with the treatment. Conventional Fractional CO2 Laser treatments usually caused patients to have redness for 3 days and scabs for 1 week. This latest Edge Fractional CO2 Laser gets around this problem by producing very fine beams that cause minimal redness and scabs that are so fine that they are barely noticeable. In fact, what most patients experience is that the skin is just slightly red for less than a day, and there are no rough scabs formed. Looking at the picture on the right, it’s apparent why Edge Fractional CO2 Laser is superior to conventional Fractional CO2 Lasers that use 30W lasers.

Results can be seen as soon as after 1 treatment for most patients although most patients will need subsequent sessions for optimal results.
